On a terrible day for weather the Cashen A team hit 5 goals to make it 5 straight league wins. The wind and rain made for a poor first half with Cashen having most of the possession and territory, but they rarely put more than 2 or 3 passes together, either through taking on too many players or seeing the ball skidding off the slippery pitch. The half was played almost entirely in the Bhodran half with Jason and Caan winning tackles early and flying forward.

After 20 minutes Cashen went 1 up. Ashley jinked his way past 3 tackles and smashed a ball that ended up in the back of the net. Ten minutes later Wayne did an uncharacteristic poor pass and the Bhodran forward ran from half way to score an equaliser. After 40 minutes the rain turned to heavy rain, then into sheet rain and then into hailstones. When these got particularly heavy everyone rushed off the pitch for cover with the ref bellowing for the captains to decide whether to play on or not. Thankfully both sides agreed to continue and after a 3 minute break, and getting everyone back from the changing rooms (Streaky!) the game continued.

One all at half time is how it ended.

The second half was a much better game. The wind and rain got lighter and eventually stopped and Cashen started zipping the ball all over the pitch with great purpose and some lovely one touch and two touch football. Ashley was yet again terrorising a right back and delivering good crosses and corners, with his left back Caan bombing forward and also putting some decent balls into the box. It’s fair to say they tore the Bhodran right side to pieces. One such ball from the left ended up at Blakey who put the ball away into the top right corner to make 2-1. Soon it was 3-1 as AJ placed a ball in off the right hand post, crossing the line and ending up in the bottom left corner.

At this time Leon came on for Streaky Sean and he played a nice controlled game as he slotted into centre midfield next to Kyle who was having a belter of a game In the middle of the park. Kyle was winning pretty much every tackle and loose ball and dominating the game for Cashen, and playing great balls forward to the wingers and front men. With Leon on it meant one way traffic for the final 20 minutes when Cashen scored a further two goals - both goal mouth scrambles from about 5 yards (from Blakey and AJ)– to make the magic 5. I am sure we scored a 6th goal but no one claimed it!

All in all a very decent second half from the boys in red. The Bhodran are not a bad team at all- and were been unbeaten in 4 games versus KM Motors and Colindale Cosmos. However such was the Cashen dominance that they would have lost by even more had it not been for their keeper who made at least two fantastic saves in his bottom left corner (so good that the ref rushed up to him to shake his hand and say “f-ing brilliant game” after the final whistle) while we put at least another 3 chances inches wide.

Man of the match was Kyle who was simply excellent in his first game of the year for the As while Graham at centre back won everything that came his way and recycled quick ball with great passes to the wide men. Overall though everyone played well. 9/10.
